ေႏြဦးကာလ၊ ျမဴထေသာအခါ
ရင္းေထာင္းရင္းဆြဲ၊ ေဆာင္ျမဲအိုးလြယ္ကာ
ဓားႏွီးထက္စြာ၊ ခါးမွာခ်ပ္လ်က္
ထန္းပြင့္ထန္းခိုင္၊ ရႊန္းၿမိဳင္ၿမိဳင္
ကလိုင္သာလြယ္လို႔ တက္သည္ႏွင့္ေလး။

ထန္းပင္ထန္းလက္၊ ထန္းရြက္ကယ္ေဝေယ
စင္ေအာင္ခုတ္ထစ္၊ ႏုမ်စ္ကယ္ထန္းဦးေရ
မယားငယ္ေဆြ၊ ထန္းေရသိမ္းဆည္း
သားေျမးဟစ္ေၾကာ္၊ ေခြးဝက္ကယ္ေခၚ
ထန္းေလွ်ာ္သာ ယုန္ပိုက္စည္းငယ္ႏွင့္ေလး။

ေခၚသံရိုက္ဟည္း၊ လူလည္းေၾကာ္ျငာ
ေခြးဟစ္လူဟစ္၊ ခတ္ပစ္ကယ္ေျခာက္ေသာအခါ
ပုတတ္ကယ္ ယုန္ ခါ၊ ေတာမွာရွိၾက
ငံုး ၾကက္ကယ္ ဖြတ္ ေႁမြ ဝံပုေလြ
မေနထြက္လာသည္တည့္ေလး။

ဝမ္းသာအားရ၊ မယားကတစ္သြယ္
ဟင္းရြက္ဆိုးေကာင္း၊ ေသာင္းေျပာင္းေရာ၍လြယ္
လင္ကတစ္သြယ္၊ ယုန္ငယ္ကစ
ေတာသတၱဝါ၊ ေတြ႕တိုင္းကိုသာ
အိတ္မွာသာ ယူ၍ ခ်သည္ႏွင့္ေလး။

သို႔ႏွင့္ေရာက္က၊ ခဏေအာင့္လွ်င္
တံစို႔ထက္ႏွင့္၊ ထန္းလ်က္ဖိုမွာကင္
ဟင္းအိုးဆူလွ်င္၊ အကင္ခတ္ၿပီး
အိုးကင္းႏွင့္ေလွာ္၊ ေရႏွင့္ေၾကာ္
မိုးေမွ်ာ္ငရုတ္သီးငယ္ႏွင့္ေလး။

ႏွစ္ေဒါင္းလန္းႀကီး၊ ခူးၿပီးေသာခါ
သမီးႏွင့္သား၊ မ်ားလို႔မဝင္သာ
ဒူးတစ္ဖက္ဟာ၊ တြန္းကာဖယ္လ်က္
သူ႕ထက္ငါေလ၊ စားေတာ႔မည္ေစ
စားေပသာလွ အုန္းခြက္ငယ္ႏွင့္ေလး။

ငံုလ်က္ကုိယ္စီသာ
ဆုပ္ကာေလြးေတာ႔သည္။
ၿပီလွ်င္ေရမရွာ
ေခြးသာေကၽြးေတာ႔သည္။

By the Onset of Foggy Summer (Minister Padeisaraja)

By the onset of foggy summer,
Carrying his pot, prop-, drop-ladders,
The climber commences the climbing
Tucking on waist a knife, tall, high toddy-trees
With thick green canopies-slinging his Kalai.

Cutting away unwanted fronds and branches,
He taps very fresh first toddy sap
Which his wife collects in containers
Calling out to her kids, dogs and pigs
Holding a frond-twine trap to catch rabbit.

Calling, shouting, barking thus mix’d
Rabbits, partrideges, ground lizards – and cooks!
Snakes, quails, monitor lizards – and wolves!
All living in woods when frightened
Out of their hiding places, they get driven.

Greens, good and bad, found in forest
Merrily she plucks and puts in her long bag
He too stuffs his large coarse sack
With all he catches on the way back_
Various small animals, rabbit included.

Thus back at home-shortly afterwards
Skewered and roasted over jaggery-fire.
The meat is put into the pot when it simmers
What’s left over is then fried in water
Being slightly burnt with hot red pepper.

A large bamboo tray laid with plentiful meals:
Many, many people as there are
Around the tray they all cont’t flock together
So jostling one another in a scramble
To enjoy a great feast with spoons of coconut shells.

With a downward face each
They eat very heartily
Then finding no water for cleaning
Straight to the dogs, the tray’s off immediately.
